Why is Myopia Management Important?

Divider
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a disease that elongates the eye (like a football) and makes objects far away appear blurry. Myopia is increasingly common: rates have risen 70% in just three decades. Symptoms often emerge early in a child’s life and worsen throughout adolescence. Not only do children suffering from myopia have a more difficult time focusing in school, but they are more susceptible to diseases in the long run. This is why it is crucial for children to receive annual exams from a trusted myopia expert — if caught early and properly managed, the symptoms can be greatly reduced and, in some cases, even reversed.

If your child regularly experiences the following symptoms, they may have myopia:

  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Inability to focus
  • Eye strain
  • Squinting to see properly
  • Losing their place while reading

Three groups of children who are especially at risk:

  • Kids who develop myopia before the age of 10
  • Kids who have frequent changes their glasses prescription
  • Kids who have parents or siblings who are myopic, especially if they’re of Asian descent

How Does Myopia Management Work?

Divider
Myopia management begins with a free consultation to see if your child needs and is eligible for the treatment regimen. If approved, they will undergo a comprehensive consultation to determine their respective needs, including their lifestyle, eye shape, and more.

The management program itself does not require surgery and is non-invasive. We have a large range of highly modern treatment options backed by cutting-edge technology that puts us on the forefront of myopia treatment programs, including Ortho-K lenses, specialty contact lenses, and prescription eye drops specially formulated to prevent slow myopia progression in children.
